Hi Kuga-R, can you post the details/ part number/ supplier of your side light mods.

Many Thanks

Hi Kuga-R sorry about that but have just seen the link for the sidelights. Do you happen to know what kind of lamps are in the headlights as I would like to change them to a cooler white colour.

JonD , thanks very much for that. I went to Halfords and tried online to see what was allready in my Kuga so that I can get the correct mod. As you can see I do not know anything about car lighting but I believe the sidelights are 501 ( I can purchase 4x white leds on ebay which will blend with the drls )In your opinion what is my best option on the link that you sent me.Halfords do a whiter upgrade 55w H7s I believe.

Thanks in advance

JonDWhat do you think of these, too cheap?

These are the type of LEDs i used for the following:

rear number plate x2

puddle lights x2

rear interior light x 1

front reading lights x 2

front footwell lights x2

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Xenon-White-T10-168-194-W5W-Wedge-5-SMD-5050-LED-LIGHT-/250677098396?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a5d84f79c

some people call them W5W or T10 or 501.

I wouldnt get ones that have even more LEDs that are even longer as they may not fit in the various light holders. I know that these (with 5 SMD LEDS) DO fit in the above positions.

for the front interior light (between the reading lights, its a festoon 36mm, like this....

as per my other post, i spent more side lights and went for ones that regulate there temperatures and face forwards.

I will post some pics over the weekend too

Regarding the headlights, as jon D mentioned, i have xenons, hence i didnt need to change these. One thing i would say is that if you are changing the main headlights, try to match the colour with the side light LEDS, so it doesnt look like an aftermarket job.

Thanks Kuga-R for taking the time for your post. I know what you mean by trying to keep them all of the same colour. What do you think of the ebay link in my last post, looks a little bit on the cheap side to me, but along the right lines of what I am looking for, then I have got to try to match the front fogs, I can see this hole I am digging getting deeper

Thanks

Hi PortKuga, these are all the same colour "6000k" so should give you the correct colour match. Bulb quality can vary, i know that on the Fiesta they now fit H7-L bulbs now in the factory, (L means long life) due to the fact that the fiesta runs at a higher vehicle voltage when running. Dont know how long these ones would last, but for ÂŁ9 if they do go pop early, its not a great loss. Give them a go....

#12 ·
As Kuga-R say's don't go for the cheapest, you'll just end up replacing them early. The LED's will be raelly white, I'd suggest go for a super white bulb imo, steer clear of any that have a hint of blue in.

Thanks for the reply guys, really appreciated, will try to look out for better quality lamps.I will post back when I have made any mods.

Well, just attempted to change the bulbs for the LED onesFootwell lights fine,
Front interior light wont work with the 36mm LED?
I have managed to push the passenger reading light fitting out of the holder & cant get the bulb in. I think the whole housing may now have to come out now?
The drivers side is OK.
The rear interior light wont come on when the doors are opened, but does work on the switch.
At this point Ive decided to stop & call the auto sparks.
Ill get him to do the rest me thinks

The bulb holders are very delicate &are easily damaged,so be careful.Dont do what I did & try to push the bulbs in to hard,if they wont go in with only slight pressure check that the electrical connections in the holder are not bent, as you could end up in the same situation as me.
Let me know how you get on, as you are not far from me & it would be good to se one complete.

Titanium Kev, if you intend to change the puddle lights. be careful, as on my car, the bulb housing is also screwed into the mirror housing. To get to this you will need to take the glass out. The thread I read suggested that you find the silver retaining clip & prise the bulb housing out from below. If you do this, it his highly likely that you will break the fixing screw of [as I have done] but in saying this, the whole housing has gone back in with a healthy click & appears to be fine.My car is new so they may have changed the design slightly since that thread was posted, be careful.

I have had a couple of PM relating to this item, so here is the response i have give relating to how to chnage the puddle lights................................................................

i know some people use the metal clip, but i could not find this with a torch and screw driver.

So my method is listed below and on this link....

http://www.kugaownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2681&KW=mirror&PID=27742&title=puddle-lights#27742

it took 2 mins.

step 1: move the mirror as far towards the vehicle as it will go using the electric button inside the vehicle. eg. on the drivers side, press the button to the left.

step 2: use a thin long screwdriver to "nudge" the black plastic clips that hold the mirror in place, whilst pulling on the mirror slightly. once you have done this on 3 of the clips holding the mirror, gently pull the mirror off.

step 3: pull out the grey rubber bung thatholds the old light bulb.

step 4: push the LED bulb in (AND CHECK THAT IT WORKS BE FOR REFITTING THE MIRROR, LEDs ONLY WORK ONE WAY, SO IF IT DOES NOT WORK TURN IT AROUND.

step 5: push the grey bung back in

step 6: push the mirror back in place, apply even pressure.

step 7: do the other side.

There is also a picture of the mirror assembly here http://www.kugaownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3568&KW=mirror&PN=1&title=drivers-door-mirror-wanted

The sidelight LED's look really bright in your photos Kuga-R, so I just ordered a pair. I hope that this will mean that DRL's won't be needed if these are as bright as they seem, I will just run on sidelights. I already have some 9 LED tower 501's that I bought some time ago from Ultraleds fitted in this position, and work fine, but they don't provide a focused light that makes them stand out. Thanks for the links! Edited by: quatroxquatro

Fitted my puddle light a few months ago with no problems also fitted the rest of my LED's today.

I'm thinking to completely change my front lights which are the normal Kuga lights with the xenon ones.Even though I can have xenon bulbs purchasing just a HID conversion kit consisting of everything needed (bulbs,wiring,balast/amplifier and clamps) I would like to have the "real thing"!
Is something like that possible? What kind/type of bulbs a genuine xenon lighted Kuga use?Are there H7 xenon bulbs or D1S/D1R type?
I'm asking this because the set of lights I'm about to buy comes without the amplifier and I must know which amplifier I must buy and use to guide the correct type of bulbs. If the genuine Kuga xenon lights use also xenon H7 type of bulbs I could still use the same balast/amplifier offered by the numerous HID conversion kits out there. If Ford use D1S/D1R type of bulbs on the xenon equipped Kuga I must find and buy the appropriate balast/amplifier for this lamp.
Furthermore,I'm concerned about which bulbs are xenon on the genuine Kuga light,as well as how many there are.1 or 2 xenon bulbs per light? The main, the high beam or both?
Even though the questions apply to those who have a genuine (from factory) xenon equipped Kuga like the one Kuga-R has, any possible help from anyone would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance
Nick.

Most after market HIDconversions are not legal in the EU zone, because they do not have the automatic leveling system needed to comply with the construction and use regulations. I don't know about Greece, but in Spain roadside checks of cars with modified headlights result in fines.
I would think that the whole process is 1- very expensive and 2 - dealer fit. I would be very wary of taking this on as a DIY project, unless you have skilled advice or experience.

Good luck,

Hi guys got this from another site I normally visit. Something that you better check before replacing those head light bulbs, as this will come in to affect January 2011

HID lights ""“ Specifically those aftermarket kits that give the very bright headlight beams. Any cars found with these kits will be an automatic MOT failure. Testers are able to easily spot the difference between HID kits, and manufacturer fitted Xenon's. Easy to spot as Xenon cars have suspension level sensors, in car beam adjuster, and usually headlight washers.

Chipped ECU's - Unsure of just how/if this one will realistically be enforced, but any cars with chipped ECU's will in theory be an MOT failure. I can only assume VOSA have found an easy way of checking ECU software through the cars OBD port (diagnostic plug).

Wiring harness ""“ The general condition of he wiring harness will be checked to make sure there is no rubbing or chaffing, and that the harnesses are in generally good condition. If unsecure, or damaged again MOT failure.

Airbag warning lights - If any warning lights are illuminated, it will again be an MOT failure.

EDIT: Received few comments about the link not working/containing the right info..

The above was confirmed in the October 2010 VOSA newsletter. Which can be viewed as a PDF from their website. Link below, see page 8 for details.

Well...I just talked with the light unit seller and he told me that the unit set of the Xenon front lights he offers has everything needed (lamps and ballasts) already installed! The only think he wasn't quite sure though is the possibility that I would need a fitting adapter in order to connect the xenon lights to my existing lighting system.Because I have somekind of access to the parts department of Ford's dealer, I'll ask them to help me out on this.If there is a solution I think I'll give it a try with the xenon units.
Cheers!

Have been looking at changing the sidelights to LEDs this afternoon.Could someone tell me if you have to remove the black plastic trim, fixed with 4 black screws which goes across the engine bay to get access to the back of the headlight.
To get to the sidelights, do you have to take out the circular rubber bung [approx 40mm diameter] in the back of the headlight housing.
I could be looking in the wrong place as their doesnt seem to be a lot of space to get to this bung
